![]() ![]() Having been to college myself routers in dorms were frowned upon, they "preferred" that you use a switch or the very least turn of wireless so you don't interfere with their network. EDIT #2: Turning off ICS on the laptop worked for some reason. ![]() TL DR: SSH using ethernet cable worked at home but doesn't work at the dorm.ĮDIT: I don't have a monitor to use with the pi. The only other change I've made to the laptop was to enable internet connection sharing so that I can give my desktop internet while I wait to get a super long ethernet cable. What gives? I know the dorm router has assigned my laptop a new IP but I don't see how that would affect my being able to SSH into the pi with an ethernet cable. ![]() Now I can't SSH using the ethernet cable and when I try to ping the static IP I've given the pi it says "Destination Host Unreachable" even though there's a direct ethernet connection between the two computers. At that point I could remove the ethernet cable and SSH again over wifi. At home, I had set up my RPI so that I could SSH into it with my Laptop using putty to log in so that the wifi dongle would start working (via a script I wrote that runs after log-in). ![]()
